Perhaps I’m just imagining it? We left Flores on 8 August 2026. On 15 August 2026, the island was rocked by an initial earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale. There were numerous fatalities. The sky over Labuan Bajo looks so dramatic, as if it were trying to tell us something. Perhaps that’s a silly thought? But Flores is regularly struck by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and even tsunamis.
Its beauty is coupled with an ever-present danger posed by the immense forces of nature.
